Biography of André Minaux
André Minaux was born in Paris in 1923. He studies at The Decorative Arts School in Paris where he attends Maurice Brianchon and Roland Oudot's classes (1941-1945). In 1945, during his military service in Avignon, Minaux comes across mediterranean light and André Marchand's painting. Towards 1948, the artist discovers lithography in Mourlot's atelier and from now on this technique will be a major part of his work. He realizes still-lives, landscapes, realist scenes with colored elements surrounded by rings. From 1967, the artist uses sculpture than in the early 70s he starts etching. As a brillaant draughtsman, André Minaux drags us into a mix of black and dark alchemy, putting all his strenght into it. After a naturalist chapter in the 60s, the artist renew his vision and carries his work towards a lyrism close to abstraction. André Minaux dies in Provins in 1986.
