Alfred Manessier was born in 1911 in Saint-Ouen (Somme). He studied art to the “Ecole des Beaux-Arts” of Amiens. He moved to Paris in 1929 where he followed architecture classes at the “Ecole des Beaux-Arts”, while attending freely the Montparnasse academies. Alfred Manessier was friend with Jean Le Moal. In 1935, the two men worked to the Academy Ranson in Roger Bissière’s atelier. . . .

Stamp by Alfred Manessier
The publication of a postal stamp is often a homage paid by a nation to a place, an event, a remarkable cause or a character which count. The painters and other artists do not escape from this rule. Some are however "forgotten" of postal art. Here, gathered below (French or foreign), emitted stamps (206) or simple studies of stamp (224) in homage to the artists represented on our website. The first French stamp was emitted in 1849, England preceded us by ten years. There is often a share of voyage in this small form of shape paper. The stamp circulates, sails, flies away, it makes dream, then dream a little. M.C.

A tribute to Alfred Manessier

Victime d’un accident de la route dans le Loiret quelques jours plus tôt, Alfred Manessier s’éteint le 1er août 1993 à l’hôpital d’Orléans-la-Source. Il repose au cimetière de Saint-Ouen (Somme), son village natal. Le 5 août, les funérailles de l’artiste se déroulèrent dans la lumière des magnifiques vitraux du chœur de l’église Saint-Sépulcre d'Abbeville qu’il avait conçu et qui tenait une place toute particulière dans son coeur. La dernière oeuvre de Manessier, inachevée, s’intitule « Notre amie la mort selon Mozart ». Homme de foi, la mort est, pour Manessier, inséparable de la Résurrection. En hommage à sa mémoire, nous déposons une simple fleur des marais.
