Marie-Clémentine Valadon, future Suzanne Valadon, was born in 1865 in Bessines/Gartempe, France. Of an unknown father, her mother was a linen keeper. Stamp by Suzanne Valadon
The publication of a postal stamp is often a homage paid by a nation to a place, an event, a remarkable cause or a character which count. The painters and other artists do not escape from this rule. Some are however "forgotten" of postal art. Here, gathered below (French or foreign), emitted stamps (206) or simple studies of stamp (224) in homage to the artists represented on our website. The first French stamp was emitted in 1849, England preceded us by ten years. There is often a share of voyage in this small form of shape paper. The stamp circulates, sails, flies away, it makes dream, then dream a little. M.C.

A tribute to Suzanne Valadon

On l'appelait Suzanne la folle pour sa façon libre de vivre, elle fut le modèle d’Auguste Renoir, Puvis de Chavanne et Lautrec. Le peintre Suzanne Valadon, atteinte de diabète, victime d'une congestion cérébrale, sombre dans le coma et meurt à l'âge de 73 ans le 7 avril 1938 à 11 heures du matin ; elle était entourée de ses amis André Derain, Pablo Picasso et Georges Braque. Elle repose au Cimetière de Saint-Ouen (13ème division), au nord de Paris. Nous déposons sur sa tombe, en hommage à sa mémoire, la fleur d’un fuchsia qui s’incline.
