Biography of Leo Wesel
The painter, sculptor and lithographer Leo Wesel was born in 1955 in Roosendaal, a little city in the south of The Netherlands. Already at a very early age his ambition was dominated by the urge to pursue a career in the arts. He studied at the Fashion and Design Academy in The Hague and trained at the Academy of Arts in Roosendaal. He has worked as an artist since 1980, settled in Ventimiglia, Italy, in 1990, then in Nice, France in 2011 with the French-New York sculptor, Kim Boulukos. He followed courses « Lavoro con Ardesia » (working with slate) in 2002 and 2003. (Nuovi Orizzonti - Molini di Triora, Italy). Leo Wesel maintains working relationships with the Dutch expressionists Wim Schütz and Wim Bouthoorn,and the French painter Serge Hélénon. Since a long time he was close to the Italian-French painter Bernard Damiano who died in 2000. The Italian painter Sergio Biancheri, the Hungarian constructivist Tamas Konok and the American professor of ceramics in Monaco, Daphné Corregan are also part of his close circle. Personal exhibitions of Leo Wesel's paintings and sculptures are regularly organized and the artist has participated in numerous collective exhibitions. Several of his large public works can be seen in Menton, Ventimiglia, San Lorenzo al Mare, Veszprem, etc.
