    Paru en 1988, le catalogue raisonné des ouvrages illustrés de Pierre Matisse est le complément indispensable des deux volumes du catalogue raisonné de l’œuvre gravé de Henri Matisse publié en 1983. Etabli également par Claude Duthuit, le présent volume répertorie 139 références entre 1914 et 1958 : livres illustrés d’estampes, livres inachevés, les études inédites, les livres, périodiques, albums, catalogues et programmes contenant une ou plusieurs illustrations originales de l’artiste, les couvertures créées pour des livres, catalogues ou revues, la plupart réalisés à partir de gouaches découpées de Pierre Matisse. Le travail de Matisse, quand il s’exerce dans le champ du livre, ne diffère de celui de l’estampe isolée ni par la nature, ni par l’esprit. Pour l’essentiel, les techniques restent aussi les mêmes : eau-forte, linogravure, lithographie. Matisse aura, entre autres, visité Mallarmé, Baudelaire, Ronsard, Charles d’Orléans, Joyce, Montherlant.
