    Le catalogue raisonné « Les livres illustrés de Raoul Ubac » a été publié en 2006 par les Editions L’instant perpétuel (Rouen). Etabli par Christian Nicaise, spécialiste de l’artiste, celui-ci dénombre 59 ouvrages ou revues illustrés par Raoul Ubac sur une période d’un demi siècle de création, de 1935 à 1985 : photographies, dessins, gravures, lithographies, bois gravés, ardoises taillées reportées sur pierres lithographiques, burins et eaux-fortes, empreintes d’ardoises gravées et linogravures se succèdent. On notera l’étroite collaboration de l’artiste avec les Ed. Maeght, ainsi qu’avec P.A.B. (Pierre André-Benoit). Raoul Ubac va entamer cette longue aventure de l’illustration par des photographies publiées sous le pseudonime de Raoul Michelet pour « Actuation poétique » auprès de Camille Bryen (1935). Son ultime intervention, 2 ardoises gravées, se fera pour « A l’infini le sable » de Julius Balthazar (Ed. Maeght, 1985). Raoul Ubac a mis son art aux services d’écrivains et de poètes de renom : André Breton, Jean Lescure, Paul Eluard, André Frenaud, Yves Bonnefoy, Christian Dotremont, Pierre André-Benoit, Gaston Puel, Jacques Dupin et d’autres encore.
