Biography of Pierre Buraglio
Tinged with abstraction and figuration, Pierre Buraglio's work explores interdisciplinarity and the links between form and meaning in contemporary aesthetics. The artist was born in Charenton in 1939. He lives and works in Maisons-Alfort (Val-de-Marne). In 1959, Pierre Buraglio entered the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. Two years later, he participated for the first time in the Salon de la Jeune Peinture; also in 1961, he met Gilles Aillaud. From 1963 to 19665, Pierre Buraglio spent time in New York. During this period, he attended Roger Chastel's studio at the ENSBA (École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris), where he worked with Vincent Bioulès and Claude Viallat, among others. During the events of May 1968, Pierre Buraglio was a permanent member of the popular workshop at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. From 1968 to 1969, he was the editorial secretary for the Jeune Peinture bulletin. From 1969 until 1974, Pierre Buraglio stopped painting in order to devote himself to a militant political activity. From 1976, he taught at the regional school of Fine Arts in Valence and then, after having been a guest artist, he was appointed professor at the ENSBA. His work has been widely and regularly exhibited in France and abroad.
