  Biography of René Galassi

  Born in Lyon, René Galassi lives and works in Nice. He starts painting quite late, feeeling the urge to express feelings related to his strange relationship with the outside world. Even though he is attracted by creation he will never attend any art school. Henri Baviera, etcher and editor, teaches him how to etch and let him work by his side. In 1999, he takes etching classes, assimilating close artists’influences and starts etching under his « professor » watchful eye. In 2001, René Galassi opens his workshop in the old downtown Nice, now creating and editing his own etchings. His topics are abstract insoired by imaginary worlds ; The artist uses botanical terms to name his prints, chosen for their esoterism, recollection of studies undetaken for his own pleasure.
