  Biography of Stéphane Blanquet

  Born in 1973, the artist-draftsman Stéphane Blanquet has been active on the visual arts scene since the late 1980s. A multidisciplinary artist, his work includes, among other things, the design and production of installations, the creation of works of art, urban art, cinema, theatre, independent publishing and artistic direction. An artist brimming with ideas and desires, he is also interested in sculpture, tapestry and, of course, building graphic work, notably through lithograph.
  
  At a very young age, he had an interest in popular culture (illustrated, jokes and tricks, magic tricks, forain art and optical illusions); he quickly became "one of the most typical and eminent graphic artists". His graphic works were exhibited in the early 1990s (Regard Moderne in Paris in 1993 and 1996, Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco) and were published by numerous magazines. From that time on, he was published in the United States.
  In 1997, he became involved in the making of animated films and created his first short film; others followed regularly, often presented in numerous festivals and exhibitions.
  In 2001, Stéphane Blanquet's work was the subject of a first retrospective at the Maison de la culture in Tournai, Belgium. Also in 2001, his graphic novel " La nouvelle aux pis " (Ed. Cornélius) was published, followed by the publication of several other works. In 2007, Stéphane Blanquet published the graphic novel " La Vénéneuse aux deux éperons " (Ed. Cornélius), which will be one of the winners of the competition for the most beautiful French books. His books are published in Japan, the United States, Spain, Italy and Brazil.
  In the early 2000s, notably for the Comédie de Caen, Stéphane Blanquet took part in the creation of plays and became involved in directing, scenography, stage costume design and writing. In 2010, the play " Comment ai-je pu tenir là-dedans ?  " was presented at the Avignon festival, the Palais de Chaillot, the Korean National Theatre in Seoul and in several Japanese cities; it was nominated for a Molières award. Stéphane Blanquet continues his work for the theatre today.
  In 2007, he re-launched his publishing house United Dead Artists, publications centered on the image; working without respite, monographs, reviews and objects follow one another and he will thus publish the work of nearly 200 artists and about a hundred publications.
  In 2008, he made a first foray into urban art and created a large mural in Autriche. The artist regularly presents his installations in numerous group exhibitions in France (Musée d'art contemporain de Lyon, Reims, Evreux) and abroad (Japan, Singapore).
  Stéphane Blanquet's works are part of private collections in France, Europe, the USA, the Philippines and Japan; they are also present in important public collections.
