Stamp by Egbert Moehsnang
fictional stamp
The publication of a postal stamp is often a homage paid by a nation to a place, an event, a remarkable cause or a character which count. The painters and other artists do not escape from this rule. Some are however "forgotten" of postal art. Here, gathered below (French or foreign), emitted stamps (206) or simple studies of stamp (224) in homage to the artists represented on our website. The first French stamp was emitted in 1849, England preceded us by ten years. There is often a share of voyage in this small form of shape paper. The stamp circulates, sails, flies away, it makes dream, then dream a little. M.C.
When the stamp is really emitted, the artist name is preceded of an asterisk (*).
It is certain that we do not know each stamp emitted for such or such artist; do not hesitate with us to make known them!

Notes of biography
Egbert Moehsnang was born in Amberg (Bavaria-Germany) in 1927. He moves to Switzerland in 1950. Painter, etcher, his first exhibits will be organized as soon as 1955 mainly in Switzerland (Bern, Basel) and in Germany (Munich). Moeshnang will participate regularly to all the important events for the etching movement (“Ljubiana Biennale” in 1963, “Etching in Switzerland” in Lausanne or “The New Etching” in Paris in 1974, etc...).
The artist is interested both in the illustrated books and portfolios edition. In the meantime, he spends time on religious works and on the making of playing cards (he will even create three card games). For his playing cards, Moeshnang often uses different sophisticated techniques (engraving, drypoint, aquaforte, aquatint, pochoir,...). All the Moeshnang's skills reveal the artist's humanist and cultural experiences but also his extraordinary ability “to introduce monumental in a restricted format”
From 1963 and on, the Kornfeld Gallery supports Moeshnang's work and in 2003, a significant exhibit called “Retrospective” is organized.
His work is subtle, powerful and multiple. Egbert Moeshnang let his work talk for itself; he does not like much interpretations feeling that informal expression contains more than what language can express.
Tradition-bound, Egbert Moeshnang does not prevent himself to fully live today's technologies. Thus, for few years now, he “gave up” painting and uses his computer like a sculptor does with hammer and cisors. The artist who is now 82 lives and works in Schüpfen (Switzerland) close to Bern.
Moeshnang expects patiently mysterious visions. With the intricate transfer of computerized images to the metal sheet, graphical arts are gaining in fullness. In the artist's giant printings (started in the years 2000), black appears particulary dense however clear: Moeshnang's touch applied to his new technique of expression.
The artist who is now 82, lives and works in Schüpfen (Switzerland) in a wonderful farmhouse near Bern. “In this wonderful house of almost 300 years, the only sounds are those of a fontain and of crow's calls”.
Artists on display
The art and the artists display: proclamations, galleries, museums, personal or collective exhibitions. On walls or in shop windows, wise or rebels, posters warn, argue, show. Some were specially conceived by an artist for such or such event, other, colder, have only the letter.
Some were created in lithographic technic, most are simple offset reproductions. They are many those who like collecting these rectangles of paper, monochrome or in games of colours, in matt paper or brilliant, with many words or almost dumb.
We are happy also to be able to greet, by this pages, mythical galleries as those of Denise René, Louis Carré, Claude Bernard, Berheim Jeune, Maeght, Pierre Loeb and others.
