Stamp by François Berthier
fictional stamp
The publication of a postal stamp is often a homage paid by a nation to a place, an event, a remarkable cause or a character which count. The painters and other artists do not escape from this rule. Some are however "forgotten" of postal art. Here, gathered below (French or foreign), emitted stamps (206) or simple studies of stamp (224) in homage to the artists represented on our website. The first French stamp was emitted in 1849, England preceded us by ten years. There is often a share of voyage in this small form of shape paper. The stamp circulates, sails, flies away, it makes dream, then dream a little. M.C.
When the stamp is really emitted, the artist name is preceded of an asterisk (*).
It is certain that we do not know each stamp emitted for such or such artist; do not hesitate with us to make known them!

François Berthier is born in Amiens in 1956. After a time in Quimper, he lives and works in Brest (Finistère). He studies at the School of Decorative Arts in Paris, before working as a freelance graphic designer, and collaborator agency. He carries along with his professional life a personal artistic research (photography, drawing, painting).
A very serious accident in 2003, and a long and painful period "in suspense" open, oddly, a path that he takes with determination: art as therapy! François Berthier begins exhibiting his work, collectives exhibitions, solo exhibitions: painting-collage and photo-graphics, games of forms, dialogs, double-meaning, his expression is strongly influenced by his training and profession. These images-poems open all possible readings, leaving to each the freedom of his own interpretation. "Digging a detail and go further," writes the artist. The artist is pleased by his harmonious Diptychs, sometimes mysterious, where each party brings an extra soul to his alter ego.
Works by François Berthier have several times been selected to participate in the annual sale of "The young contemporary art" at the Hotel Drouot (Paris), so the artist has recently participated at the Salon de l'Estampe (Grand Palais Paris). Note that Francois Berthier also performs work in collaboration with Sandrine Peron, his companion of life: osmosis work for four hands, photography and photo-etching, they sign their works "Sa-Fran," a name born from the first letters of their respective name.
In addition, their joint work (see the exhibition "Entrevues, une approche mixte"), like his, are presented in many art libraries and galleries in France but also abroad (Benelux, Germany, Ireland).
François Berthier accurately mixes a gray and dull reality to a colorized dream. The artist works on the confrontation between the severity of line and surprisingly freedom of color, between the geometry of landscapes in black and white that impose the blue, red and yellow, inviting the viewer to invent his own story. The world of François Berthier is poetic, a sort of mute proposal but very "talkative" to see the world differently.
Artists on display
The art and the artists display: proclamations, galleries, museums, personal or collective exhibitions. On walls or in shop windows, wise or rebels, posters warn, argue, show. Some were specially conceived by an artist for such or such event, other, colder, have only the letter.
Some were created in lithographic technic, most are simple offset reproductions. They are many those who like collecting these rectangles of paper, monochrome or in games of colours, in matt paper or brilliant, with many words or almost dumb.
We are happy also to be able to greet, by this pages, mythical galleries as those of Denise René, Louis Carré, Claude Bernard, Berheim Jeune, Maeght, Pierre Loeb and others.
