Notes of biography

The Italian artist Pippo Oriani is born in Turin in 1909. Pippo Oriani belonged to a family of leading manufacturers of Turin, and logically he attends classes at the Superior School of Architecture. In 1927, he becomes a regular of the famous "National Coffee" where he meets artists that providing him his first contact with the Futurists and members of the "Group of Six".
The art of Pippo Oriani is associated with the second generation of Italian Futurism. The young man is still a student of architecture, when Enrico Prampolini (eminent representative of Italian Futurism), to his great surprise, enables him to present two of his works in the first Futurist architecture exhibition held in Turin (1928). In 1929, he is invited to the Paris exhibition of Italian Futurist painters and in 1931 at the Futurist exhibition of "aeropeinture" and scenography at the Pesaro Gallery in Milan.
Pippo Oriani definitely rallies to the Futurist movement after meeting Fillia (Luigi Colombo), master of ceremonies and theorist of Futurism that he had established in Turin. Although Pippo Oriani is one of the key members (and becomes the leader in 1936), he is also influenced by Cubism.
During his frequent visits to Paris, the artist meets Michel Seuphor, Cocteau, Clair, Leger, Zadkine, Delaunay, Diaghileff or Kandinsky, and many others who are part of the "avant-gardes"; his painting evolves, inspired by cubism and futurism, while retaining his own autonomy and invention.
His art is meant to express an impetus to the spiritual dimension of existence. His friendship with Prampolini opens the doors of the scenography and avant-garde movies; he created in 1930-31, with the writers Tina Cordero and Guido Martina, the futuristic movie "Speed" which is broadcasted internationally. Meanwhile, Oriani continues his research in architecture as an interior decorator and designer.
The artist feels fundamentally engaged in a project of the popularization of the avant-garde art that he transmits through the promotion of a revolution of taste regarding places of everyday life.
The Activity of Oriani touched widely journalism and art criticism; and he was in particular editor-in-chief of the magazine "Citta Nuova" that led Fillia, writing himself numerous articles (" Futuristic City "," Italian Futurists Style ", etc.).
Pippo Oriani evolves again, in his paintings, toward a very personal style in the 60s: the feast of shapes and colors.
Pippo Oriani dies in a car accident in Rome in 1972.
Many of his works are held in major museums and galleries of modern art in the world (Turin, Milan, Rome, Rotterdam, Philadelphia, Athens, Frankfurt, Zurich, Basel, Tokyo, Barcelona, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro, Sydney and Melbourne ).

Artists on display

The art and the artists display: proclamations, galleries, museums, personal or collective exhibitions. On walls or in shop windows, wise or rebels, posters warn, argue, show. Some were specially conceived by an artist for such or such event, other, colder, have only the letter.

Some were created in lithographic technic, most are simple offset reproductions. They are many those who like collecting these rectangles of paper, monochrome or in games of colours, in matt paper or brilliant, with many words or almost dumb.

We are happy also to be able to greet, by this pages, mythical galleries as those of Denise René, Louis Carré, Claude Bernard, Berheim Jeune, Maeght, Pierre Loeb and others.
