Stamp by Stéphane Bordarier
fictional stamp
The publication of a postal stamp is often a homage paid by a nation to a place, an event, a remarkable cause or a character which count. The painters and other artists do not escape from this rule. Some are however "forgotten" of postal art. Here, gathered below (French or foreign), emitted stamps (206) or simple studies of stamp (224) in homage to the artists represented on our website. The first French stamp was emitted in 1849, England preceded us by ten years. There is often a share of voyage in this small form of shape paper. The stamp circulates, sails, flies away, it makes dream, then dream a little. M.C.
When the stamp is really emitted, the artist name is preceded of an asterisk (*).
It is certain that we do not know each stamp emitted for such or such artist; do not hesitate with us to make known them!

The pictorial work of Stephane Bordarier, for his research on the quality of color and surface, gives him a unique position on the French scene painting. Born in 1953 in Beaucaire, he lives and works in Nimes, his studio adjacent to the one of Alain Clement. In the 80s, after using soil and natural pigments, Stephane Bordarier, begins to occupy his canvas with surfaces frankly colored and clearly organized. This is a matter for the artist at the time, to produce the surface of a singular experience: that of color and light, processed in a manner that thereafter he keeps perfecting and stripping. This technique, very rigorous and despite significant developments, did not fundamentally change until this present day; it consists in gluing the coated canvas, before applying on it, during the time the glue becomes tacky, the paint or paints with a scraper.
Through the practice of Stephane Bordarier, colors went narrowing. If at his debuts, the artist juxtaposes with great economy colored superficies, his paintings by dint of radical renouncements has now become almost monochromatic, sparing tiny white spaces that prevent it from falling into the bare monochrome: red paintings, others gray, others earthly or purple from Mars. The color stands now for itself!
There is in the work of Stephane Bordarier a quest in the painting that is quintessence; any subject and any form of expressionism are rejected. It is a work based on color and light reflection on a quality surface in a special way. Ways to reduce painting to its simplest and strongest expression is the essence of the artist's work.
Note that the artist exhibits in France and abroad (Italy, Germany, Belgium, Korea, etc.) in personal and group exhibitions; the Jean Fournier Parisian Gallery shows his work more than ten times since the late 80s.
Stephane Bordarier leads a graphic work alongside his paintings, working in a series of engravings wood in collaboration with Michael Woolworth, realizing also illustrated books (eg "Missing" with Yves Michaud, Ed N. Dortindeguey, 1997).
Art stripped, without repentance; the work of Stephane Bordarier is made of intensity and density, an art where the time and space are intimately linked. The Fabre Museum in Montpellier just devotes to him an exhibition (January-March 2010).
Artists on display
The art and the artists display: proclamations, galleries, museums, personal or collective exhibitions. On walls or in shop windows, wise or rebels, posters warn, argue, show. Some were specially conceived by an artist for such or such event, other, colder, have only the letter.
Some were created in lithographic technic, most are simple offset reproductions. They are many those who like collecting these rectangles of paper, monochrome or in games of colours, in matt paper or brilliant, with many words or almost dumb.
We are happy also to be able to greet, by this pages, mythical galleries as those of Denise René, Louis Carré, Claude Bernard, Berheim Jeune, Maeght, Pierre Loeb and others.
