Biography of Alfred Kubin
Alfred Kubin was born in 1877 in Litomerice (Czech Republic). Shy and lonely, the young boy spends a lot of time drawing. In 1887, his sick mother dies suddenly; his father's deep and true sorrow leaves him a big impression for life. His father becomes violent and himself gets more cut off from the outside world, his drawings tend to be more morbid and terrifying interpreting his own hate for the outside world. He studies at the Salzbourg School of Arts but gets expelled the following year. He seems to be doomed to failure. In 1899, Kubin applies to the Fine Arts Academy in Munich, but does not attend muuch and again is forced to quit studying. Kubin realizes his first exhibit in Berlin in 1902. In 1909, he publishes « the Other Side » of which Hermann Hesse declares that it is a major book and will influence Kafka, Jünger and surrealists. After a short stay with the « New Association of Artists from Munich » (1910), he sets up with Vassily Kandisky, Franz Marc and Gabriele Münter the « Blue Rider Association » (Der Blaue Reiter). He meets with Paul Klee who does help him. Kubin studies Nietzsche' and Schopenhauer's works whose thoughts will strongly influence his art. After passing on his entire collection to Austria, he dies in 1959 in his castle in Zwickledt.

A tribute to Alfred Kubin
- Alfred Kubin

Artists on display
The art and the artists display: proclamations, galleries, museums, personal or collective exhibitions. On walls or in shop windows, wise or rebels, posters warn, argue, show. Some were specially conceived by an artist for such or such event, other, colder, have only the letter.
Some were created in lithographic technic, most are simple offset reproductions. They are many those who like collecting these rectangles of paper, monochrome or in games of colours, in matt paper or brilliant, with many words or almost dumb.
We are happy also to be able to greet, by this pages, mythical galleries as those of Denise René, Louis Carré, Claude Bernard, Berheim Jeune, Maeght, Pierre Loeb and others.
