  "A piece of work is not something beautiful to watch, its value is to be a school of thought. The important thing is the mental image it prints," said Claes Oldenburg. The artist, of Swedish origin, is born in Stockholm in 1929. He studies art and literature at Yale University (1946-1950), then at the Art Institute of Chicago (1952-1954). He moves to New York in 1950. There, he becomes a prominent artist of Pop Art, being particularly interested in the accumulation process. Art Brut inspires the first visual works of the artist, made from waste materials. He participates in the process of acculturation, such as Jean Dubuffet, refuses to exhibit in a museum, preferring to show his work in poor neighborhoods of New York. Oldenburg works primarily on issues of hygiene and food, making almost an apology from the supermarket. He creates monumental sculptures. The approach of Oldenburg with the objects, almost totemic, is very close to that of Marcel Duchamp.
