I would like to die flying off.
The Belgian artist Jean-Michel Folon was born in 1934 in Uccle, in the surroundings of Brussels. Although having made studies of architecture, he will be devoted very quickly to the drawing. He takes part, by its illustrations, with reviews and other periodicals ; he is considered a long time as cartoonist. Folon very early created a world which is clean for him into which an anonymous character . . .

Stamp by Jean-Michel Folon
The publication of a postal stamp is often a homage paid by a nation to a place, an event, a remarkable cause or a character which count. The painters and other artists do not escape from this rule. Some are however "forgotten" of postal art. Here, gathered below (French or foreign), emitted stamps (206) or simple studies of stamp (224) in homage to the artists represented on our website. The first French stamp was emitted in 1849, England preceded us by ten years. There is often a share of voyage in this small form of shape paper. The stamp circulates, sails, flies away, it makes dream, then dream a little. M.C.
When the stamp is really emitted, the artist name is preceded of an asterisk (*). It is certain that we do not know each stamp emitted for such or such artist; do not hesitate with us to make known them!

A tribute to Jean-Michel Folon

La leucémie avec laquelle il se battait depuis trois ans a emporté Jean-Michel Folon le 21 octobre 2005 ; l’artiste s’est éteint à Monaco, il avait 71 ans. Les obsèques du peintre et dessinateur belge furent célébrées à l'église Saint-Charles de Monaco en présence du prince Albert II et d’un représentant de l’Etat français ; tout au long de l'office un piquet d'honneur des carabiniers du palais princier de Monaco monta la garde. L’homélie rendit hommage à « l'artiste universel, poète inspiré, homme sensible et réservé dévoué à la cause des enfants et des handicapés, à l'apôtre de la fraternité et du partage ». Sa tombe tournée vers la mer, il repose dans la partie haute du cimetière de la Principauté, allée aubépine. En hommage à sa mémoire, nous y déposons une marguerite.
