Joe Tilson, born in London in 1928, is an English pop art, painter, sculptor and printmaker. He served in the Royal Air Force then he studied at Saint Martin's School of Art in London (1949-1952) and the Royal College of Art (1952-1955) where he met Frank Auerbach, Leon Kossoff, R. B.Kitaj, Peter Blake, Allen Jones, Patrick Caulfield and David Hockney. Early in the sixties, Tilson became one of the leading figure associated with the British Pop Art Movement. Making use of his experience as a carpenter, he produced wooden reliefs and constructions, as well as prints and paintings. His first solo exhibit was held at the Marlborought Gallery in London in 1962. The year before, he showed his work at the Paris Biennale. He did many international exhibitions, and when he showed his work at the XXXII Venice Biennale in 1964, he became an international well known artist. Many retrospectives followed (Rotterdam, Vancouver, Bristol, etc). In the seventies, growing disillusionment with the consumer society led to a change in Tilson work. The artist began to use a wider variety of materials, (stone, straw, rope, etc) for a body of works called ォ Alchera サ. Joe Tilson artwork has been exhibited regularly throughout the world. He was elected a Royal Academician of London and his career was celebrated with a retrospective exhibition in 2002 at the Royal Academy of London (ォ Joe Tilson : Pop to Present サ). The artist is living and working in London and in Italy.

Artists on display
The art and the artists display: proclamations, galleries, museums, personal or collective exhibitions. On walls or in shop windows, wise or rebels, posters warn, argue, show. Some were specially conceived by an artist for such or such event, other, colder, have only the letter.
Some were created in lithographic technic, most are simple offset reproductions. They are many those who like collecting these rectangles of paper, monochrome or in games of colours, in matt paper or brilliant, with many words or almost dumb.
We are happy also to be able to greet, by this pages, mythical galleries as those of Denise René, Louis Carré, Claude Bernard, Berheim Jeune, Maeght, Pierre Loeb and others.
