Biography of Krishna Reddy
Krishna Reddy was born in Chitoor (Andhra Pradesh) in 1925. He settled down in Kala Bhavan (Santiniketan) in 1941 and finished his studies in 1946. With his diploma, he taught art in Kalakshetra (Madras) during 3 years from 1947 to 1950. Then in 1951 he went abroad and continued his studies at the Slade School of Fine Arts in London. He studied sculpture with Ossip Zadkine in Paris (1952-1955), then with Marino Marini in Milano (1956-57). In Paris, he studied engraving under Stanley William Hayter at Atelier 17 (1953-55). Since 1965 he has been an associate director at Hayter's Atelier 17 in Paris. Considered a master in intaglio printmaking, Krishna Reddy has been guest professor at many top-ranking universities in the USA. Reddy received the « Padma Shri » in 1972, in recognition of his distinguished contributions to art. His work has been included in more than 200 solo exhibitions all around the world. His artwork is represented in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of New-York, the British Museum in London, the Moma in New-York, the National Gallery and the Library of Congress in Washington, the Albertina and Vienna Museums and the Art Institute in Chicago. After his parisian period, Krishna Reddy has taught for more than 20 years. He's Professor Emeritus at New-York University.
