Paul Gauguin
Paul Gauguin is buried in the Catholic cemetery of Atuona (Marquesas island of Hiva Oa). After taking a high dose of morphine, he dies alone in his hut on May 8th 1903 of a heart attack. On the tomb, stands a block of stone engraved with his name and year of his death. His property and his paintings were dispersed at auction. Most of his drawings and sculptures were thrown in the trash. Here, in tribute, the pink flower with red heart of a hibiscus that Polynesian women love to wear in their hair.
